Process technology

A wide range of processes is known to manufacture structured materials (or ‘textiles’) from carbon or glass fiber tows, such as weaving, braiding, knitting and stitching. Direct application of the fiber tows is possible with techniques like filament winding or unidirectional tow placing. A short overview of the available methods is shown below.

Direct application:

  • Filament winding
  • Unidirectional Tow placing

Indirect application:

  • Weaving
  • Knitting
  • Braiding
  • Stitching
  • Tape laying (from semipreg)
